Cesarean Section – What You Need To Know

March 26, 2016 by Christina Hemming Leave a Comment

It is important to be properly informed of a cesarean section while pregnant, whether you’re planning on it or not.  Emergency c-sections are a reality and it’s best to be prepared. Here is what you should know about c-sections and information to discuss with your doctor, to ensure you and your baby’s safety and recovery.

Misgav Ladach method for Cesarean Birth

  • The Misgav Ladach Method has been shown to have fewer side effects with a faster recovery.
  • The main difference with the standard way of C Sections, is they go through the muscle belly below the belly button with their fingers and pull open the muscles to expose the Uterus.
  • Less bleeding and a faster recovery are the benefits, but a small scar under the belly button would be the main downside. In our opinion the small exposed scar is worth not having the tendon cut and the bladder removed during the surgical birth.

C Safe Scalpel

  • Please ask your doctor to reduce any chances of baby being hurt by using the protective plastic C Safe scalpel.
  • Approximately 45,000 babies are cut each year during Cesarean surgical births.
  • The Dr. can also use a Hemostatic Agent to reduce your internal bleeding.

Vitagel to reduce bleeding and promote a quick recovery

  • Hemostatic Agents can greatly reduce internal bleeding, abdominal adhesions and speed healing.
  • We found Vitagel by Stryker Corp. to be effective for C Section healing.
  • Helps stop bleeding and has collagen to promote healing.

“Seeding” Babies with Bacteria from Birth Canal Fluids

  • Using gauze to transfer vaginal fluids from mother to baby, provides a healthy population of necessary bacteria.
  • Together with bacteria and viruses that help us digest food and ward off illnesses.  The bacteria in the vagina is part of the microbiom, a collection of trillions of microbes that keep our bodies functioning
  • Studies over the past few years have hinted that this difference could change the way a baby’s immune system develops, and explain why C-section babies are more prone to things like allergies and asthma.

Abdominal Surgery Belly Band Support Wrapc-section care and healing

  • Cesarean or vaginal births both require compression to help the tissue shrink back. This is doubly true after c-section to help the incision heal and to get you back to your pre pregnant shape.
  • Wearing a belly band will allow you to move more easily while reducing pain.
  • Shrink your hips, tummy and create a smaller scar with the C Section Recovery Kit.

Scar Care and Massage

  • Massage is a proven technique and modality to improve tissue modeling for a healthier and stronger scar after a C Section.  Combine with essential oils to boost effects.
  • The tissue that was cut upset the organization of the collagen fibers, and simple techniques done consistently can make a big difference between having a lumpy or smooth scar.
  • Massage also improves circulation and helps release chemicals in the body to reduce stress and improve your well-being.
  • Reducing the internal scarring reduces other complications, such as incontinence, bowel obstruction, infertility and back pain.

Nutrition

  • To assist in digestion, have soups and smoothies in the first few days after birth.
  • Consume a lot of protein, iron, and vitamin C. Protein helps your body tissue heal and repair as well as build muscle, iron is vital for blood loss, and vitamin C can help fight potential infection.
  • Drink at least one cup of bone broth per day to help restore vital nutrients depleted during blood loss, and collagen to boost healing.
  • Cesarean mamas should not be lifting, cleaning, or cooking for quite some time (easier said than done, right Mamas?!).

Importance of Belly Binding for Pregnancy And Postpartum Recovery

February 22, 2016 by Christina Hemming 1 Comment

Binding in Post Partum care is one of the most important things aside from proper nutrition and rest when preparing or recovering from pregnancy and childbirth.

Using a belly belt for binding will give aid in

– Abdominal Support for Pregnancy
– C-Section or postpartum Recovery
– Ease of Mobility
– Breastfeeding Support
– Shrinks Hips
– Help Flatten Tummy
– Internal Organ Support
– Recovering Tissue Memory

Belly binding is the ancient technique of wrapping your stomach during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Whether it’s a cesarean, vaginal birth, or even abdominal surgery. A belly support binder offers comfortable support to both lower back and tummy.

During pregnancy and birth the core stomach muscles’ fascia is cut and the muscles are stretched. These changes in the body put pressure on the joints and internal organs. A support belt compresses the abdomen to reduce pain and discomfort, increasing mobility to perform daily functions. Compression assists in tissue memory and organ placement of the uterus, bladder, and intestines. This allows your body to recall it’s shape prior to pregnancy, and helps flatten the stomach.

C Section births require extra care. Compression from binding brings the bodily fibers back together at the incision. It helps to reduce swelling and prevent the incision from tearing, while offering protection for the incision. This gives greater confidence holding the baby and moving around. Even sneezing and coughing is extremely painful during recovery, and the support belt greatly reduces this discomfort.

Massaging with essential oils is another integral part of the postpartum healing process. Massage can help organize tissue and scatter stagnant blood while at the same time encouraging fresh blood flow to the area. This care will also reduce the chances of internal adhesions. Essential oils provide the body with the nutrients it needs to reduce scars and stretch marks.

C Section Recovery Kit offers gentle techniques to ensure a soft, flat, and adhesion free scar. The kit includes a medical grade belly binder, essential oils, skin brush, and Abdomend massage guide DVD. Use the skin brush as part of the Abdomend system to reduce ingrown hairs and decrease swelling by stimulating the lymphatic system.

C-Section Recovery Kit is founded by women that know belly binding to be one of the most important element for pregnancy, and postpartum recovery. These women have been through vaginal births, cesarean sections, midwifes, the hospital setting, and can offer recovery tips, questions to ask your doctor, and further belly binding information.

C Section Recovery Talks Pregnancy, Swollen Feet And Pending Birth

May 6, 2013 by Christina Hemming Leave a Comment

Pregnancy Support is so important to help reduce back pain, pelvis pain, and help distended stomach with a little tissue support. As baby grows pressure builds inside body, pushing organs aside for baby’s growth. Hormones are released to allow ligaments to relax so bones can move and prepare for impending birth.

When feet get swollen, like this photo of Kim Kardashian shows, it is important to wear shoes that will be gentle to your feet, increase water intake, put your feet up, and perhaps add some liquid minerals. Personally I never got edema, I think from having a large glass of Super food, or green food, everyday- thats dehydrated vegies in water, 16oz, and I loved it! My body could not get enough green food, but its not for everyone. Asapragus also helps body to eliminate extra water, but  baby needs water for body and amniotic fluid, so make sure that you keep yourself hydrated ! Coffee, tea and sodas do not count towards your water target.

If you go into labor you will lose water, from going to the bathroom in preparation for baby’s birth. If you have scheduled a C Section, or end up getting one, make sure you go to the bathroom before going into operating room as its healthier for you and baby to get rid of as much old matter from the body, and with pain pills constipation can increase. This is another reason to wear a binder, because it makes it easier to move without those side effects. All the best Kim Kardashian, it would be hard for most women to continue to look fantastic while pregnant.
