Post Pregnancy Hormones And Sex

Postpartum Depression

Hormone changes may be causing postpartum depression. The baby blues are feelings of sadness, anxiety, and irritability. These feelings may decrease arousal, but what better way to relax than an orgasm? Use your intimacy to lift depression – it’s a win-win.

Hormonal changes after childbirth decrease estrogen, which effects vaginal lubrication. Use coconut oil as lubricant and take it slowly. Lubrication issues usually go away once you’ve stopped breastfeeding or your period resumes.

Trying alternative positions may also increase arousal. Being on top allows you to be in control of penetration. Be sure to discuss any pain with your gynecologist.

Better Orgasms

Growth hormones aren’t all bad. The increase in hormones will also increase the number of nerve endings near your clitoris, leading to more frequent orgasms.

Yes, it is true! You can in fact have better sex and more orgasms after your baby is born. According to clinical sexologist, Kat Van Kirk, Ph.D., “there seems to be some evidence that nerve compression from the trauma of birth can increase a woman’s orgasmic sensitivity in a positive way.”

Your vagina could have actually changed direction after giving birth, allowing it easier to orgasm in certain positions that weren’t possible before having your baby.

Some women report having increased vaginal muscle control after carrying a baby, especially if they do their Kegels!
