Postpartum Belly Binding to Shrink Hips

April 21, 2016 by Christina Hemming Leave a Comment

Belly binding is the technique used for centuries of wrapping your stomach during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Whether it’s a cesarean or vaginal birth, binding will in fact shrink your hips. A belly support binder offers support to both lower back and tummy, while compressing your stomach and hips and shrinking them back into place.

Compression with a belly binder assists in tissue memory and organ placement of the uterus, bladder, and intestines. In the third trimester of childbirth, the uterus has expanded to the size of a watermelon. Shrinking of the uterus to its prepregnancy size may take 6 to 8 weeks. Binding assists in this natural process by allowing your body to recall it’s shape prior to pregnancy, and helps flatten the stomach.

Binding is crucial to help alleviate afterpains, bleeding, and breastfeeding discomfort. Afterpains are contractions, which shrink the uterus for several days after childbirth. The pains cause discomfort because they are reducing the uterine bleeding and are there to help shrink the uterus back to its prepregnancy size. Afterpains are most noticeable during breastfeeding, so best to wear your binder for added needed support.

The relaxed ligaments, pelvic expansion, and water and air retention from pregnancy all need to be compressed for the body to recall its pre-pregnancy shape. Hormones play an important aspect in the process of birth. Oxytocin, estrogen, and relaxin all aid childbirth.  Relaxin is a hormone produced by the ovary and the placenta with important effects in the female reproductive system and during pregnancy. In preparation for childbirth, it relaxes the ligaments in the pelvis and softens and widens the cervix.

Abdomend’s cotton band is the #1 postpartum binder to shrink hips, flatten tummy, and provide comfortable back and breastfeeding support, all while providing ease of mobility. After childbirth and 25 years of doing massage, these soft bands and massage DVD were created.

The C Section Recovery Kit comes with a scar massage brush and instructional dvd. For vaginal births, the Hem-it-in Belt is the best way for compression. Abdomend C Section Recovery Kits have been helping women for 8 years to feel great and take care of their bodies, so they can be the best moms they can be!
